Position Summary
The Medical Assistant is expected to work alongside the provider and perform all duties of a Medical Assistant. Medical Assistant will help patients feel at ease in the provider's office and often explain the provider's instructions. Must assist the department in good patient care and provide proper documentation as assigned.
Clinical Duties
(may include, but not limited to):
- Adhere to personnel policies and comply with agency requirements for ethical and professional behavior.
- This position requires positive and active support of the company, the customer and the co-worker.
- May be required to participate in quality management and quality improvement activities.
- Promotes quality and safety to help maintain a safe and pleasant work environment, follows safety regulations, and actively contributes towards a safe workplace.
- Taking medical histories
- Taking vitals
- Must keep all credentials such as Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card, medical license, etc. up to date and current.
- Must be compliant with all training requirements.
- Must comply with all other ChangePoint policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as may be required.
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients
- Preparing patients for examination
- Assisting the physician during exams
- Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
- Performing basic laboratory tests
- Instructing patients about medication and special diets
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by the provider
- Authorizing prescription refills as directed
- Drawing blood
- Taking electrocardiograms
- Removing sutures and changing dressings
Administrative Duties
(may include, but not limited to):
- Using computer applications
- Answering telephones
- Greeting patients
- Updating and filing patient medical records
- Scheduling appointments
- Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
- Handling correspondence
- Calling in prescriptions
- Adhering to personnel policies and compliance with agency requirements for ethical and professional behavior.
- Responsible for correspondence of confidential and non- confidential information.
- Keep clear, concise and accurate records and perform clinical activity and required clinical documentation according to policy and procedures.
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with personnel and resources; act as a liaison with other service providers and ChangePoint staff to assist in coordinating patient care.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Primary Contacts
Frequent interaction with HCIC and insurance companies for authorizations.
Interface as needed with Medical Officers and other clinical team members.
Collaboration as appropriate, with other community resources/referral agencies, with the patient consent.
Position Requisites
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Valid Arizona Driver's License.
- Combination of clerical training and experience equivalent to at least one year.
- Comply with a Drug Free workplace.
Preferred:
Experience or training in clinical records management.
Skills/Abilities
Required:
- Fluent in English both verbally and in writing.
- Literate.
- Able to prioritize workload, expedite and organize flow of
- assignments.
- Excellent computer skills necessary.
- Able to work in crisis-oriented work environment and to effectively employ
- analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective time management skills.
- Phone courtesy and customer service skills.
- Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute.
Preferred:
- Certified MA or currently attending classes for certification
Working Conditions
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for extended periods of time at a desk/computer; less frequently, walking, lifting and reaching.
- Visual capacity necessary to fulfill documentation, responsibilities of job.
- Able to hear ordinary conversation and phone communications.
- Negative TB skin test.
Emotional Capabilities
Able to work in a setting where there will be customers who are emotionally distressed, in crisis.
Equipment Operation
Able to correctly use office equipment (e.g.: copier, PC/word processor, fax machine). Able to employ multi-line telephone system.
Environmental Conditions
Air conditioned and/or heated unit setting.
Area may be noisy or congested with people on occasion.
