Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in billing and coding, with a comprehensive understanding of medical and behavior health terminology and the billing process. This role is essential for ensuring accurate billing and collections, as well as maintaining the integrity of records.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Process and manage billing for various services rendered, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  2. Review patient records and documentation to ensure all necessary information is included for billing purposes.
  3. Utilize knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems to accurately code diagnoses and procedures.
  4. Conduct medical collections by following up on outstanding accounts receivable and resolving billing discrepancies.
  5. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any issues related to medical records or billing.
  6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) systems and their impact on billing practices.
  7. Assist in the training of new staff on billing procedures and software systems.
  8. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to medical and behavior health billing.
  9. Adhere to personnel policy and comply with agency requirements for ethical and professional behavior.
  1. Participate in quality management and quality improvement activities.
  2. Promotes quality and safety to help maintain a safe and pleasant work environment, follows safety regulations, and actively contributes towards a safe workplace.
  3. This position requires positive and active support of the company, the customer and the co-worker.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or the CEO or CFO.

  • Frequent interaction with administrative and center wide personnel.

Position Requisites

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proven experience in medical or behavior health billing or a related field is required.
  • Strong knowledge of medical coding (ICD-9, ICD-10), medical terminology, and DRG systems.
  • Familiarity with medical office operations and electronic health record (EHR) systems is preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for problem-solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Certification in medical coding or billing (e.g., CPC, CCS) is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience in supervision of Billing Department
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • Comply with a Drug Free workplace.
  • Have or be able to obtain Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements

Sitting for extended periods of time at a desk/computer; less frequently, walking,

lifting and reaching.

Visual capacity necessary to fulfill documentation, responsibilities of job.

Able to hear ordinary conversation and phone communications.

Equipment Operation

Able to correctly use office equipment (e.g.: calculator, copier, PC/word processor,

fax) and trouble shoot common office equipment problems.

Able to employ multi-line telephone system.

Environmental Conditions

Air conditioned and/or heated office setting.
